Gratitude is the spirit woven through everything that happens on the farms that form part of the HHH – Human–Horse–Herd. At the time of writing, our family includes 41 Horses, supported by a dedicated team of 3 Managers, 8 Grooms and 3 Ladies helping with the Accommodation, Restaurant (when open) and general cleaning.
Our management team is a partnership of Horses and Humans. We come from different places, cultures, and life paths, yet together we form the Gratitude Tribe — a community rooted in respect, honour, and authentic connection.
We follow the Authentic Leadership model developed by Vanessa and the Horses. Here, Horses are not used: they are our teachers. They choose whom to work with, when, and how. Outside their sessions, they live freely in their Herds, guided by their natural rhythms and relationships.
ECO-SYSTEM
Our farms are fully organic and work together as a living, interconnected eco-system. Together, they create a true farm-to-table environment for the people who call these farms home and for the guests who enjoy our eatery in Stilbaai.
The mother gardens supply plants and trees to all farms, including the newest member of our family in Stilbaai, where an active afforestation project is currently underway.
Across all farms, we honour and protect the natural world. We safeguard the local fauna and flora, and we respect the wild animals who share these spaces with us — allowing nature to lead, and working in harmony with the land.
COMMITMENT TO THE EARTH
Every step we take is intentional. Each decision is guided by our respect for the seven generations to come. We walk gently, knowing that this Earth does not belong to us — we are simply honoured to be here now, living and learning from what she offers.
We are deeply grateful for this responsibility and for the opportunity to contribute to a healthier, more conscious future.
All our farms are almost or completely self-sufficient, allowing us to operate smoothly and sustainably, even during load shedding. Our commitment is not only to the present moment, but to the legacy we leave behind.
